So who the 'eck is Carwyn Phillips? You might know me better as Caz the Hat! I was a keen cross country runner in school (which seems a long time ago now!), and then started road running in the mid 90s. But in the early 2000s I really found the love of the mountains thanks to my friend Moley. I basically love being in the hills, it's where my (and probably many of your) home is. I used to do quite a few fell races, but It's decreased over the last few years now. I can be too competitive sometimes, and so struggle with various injuries or illnesses from time to time. So I tend not to race that often these days. My best result in racing is probably winning the Four Fans fell race a few years ago, especially as I was also 1st M50! My triumphant enthusiasm was still showing as the last ones crossed the line!

I love stuff like the Paddy Buckley, Meirionnydd and Corris rounds. Big days out in the hills often with friends, with no huge time constraint. I also organise quite a few fell races on the lovely Preseli Hills, and I also love helping out on other races too. I love taking newbie runners out on the hills, and have given guidance on map reading skills to those who may struggle. I definitely learnt the hard way by just hoping my way was the correct way, even though the map was saying something else!

I've been a back seat Committee member for a number of years, but never really stood in doing a committed role. So as Gareth was standing down as Race Registration and Safety Officer, I thought I'd best support the WFRA in doing this role. I'm well aware of how committed Race Organisers are, and how much time and effort it is in putting on races far and wide. I'd like to think that I'm here to help Race Organisers with anything if I can. So if you have any questions no matter how big or small, then please don't hesitate to contact me.
